I chose these ratings because it was an alright book. It has great pictures and full rewiew of the chandilier's history. However, on just about every level except ease of read, Beelzebub's Tales is markedly superior. I gave it as a gift to my husband. Lillian Gilbreth, apparently unedited. Although a bit dated (originally written in 1974, with an updated author's preface from 1994), this book is an invaluable critical study of the evolution in Aldo Leopold's scientific thinking, centered on his life-long struggle to understand the phenomenon of deer population growths and crashes. The movie brought me to the book, not the other way around. For some reason the only parallels which came to mind was Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. That doesn't invalidate the writing at all, but it does point out that it's not the sort of book that has a "story" or over-arching theme to follow. They all seemed a bit dysfunctional and a bit too "chick flickish".
